A well-established full-service public accounting firm in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking a Tax Manager to join their team. In this role, you’ll lead and execute tax compliance and planning services for individuals and businesses. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns, managing client deliverables, handling tax research and correspondence, and supporting special tax initiatives. You’ll supervise a small team, collaborate with staff and clients, and play a key part in maintaining the firm’s quality standards. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, collaborative professional with strong public accounting experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively manage multiple priorities.

Tax Manager Responsibilities: 

• Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals and businesses
• Conduct tax planning, projections, and research
• Oversee resolution and correspondence with tax authorities
• Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax documents
• Manage client communications and deliverables
• Maintain firm-wide quality and compliance standards
• Lead and mentor a team of 4–5 staff
• Support special projects and firm initiatives as needed
• Collaborate across departments to deliver high-quality client service

Tax Manager Requirements: 

• 8+ years of public accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations
• Proficient in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Proficiency in UltraTax or comparable tax software
• Experience with QuickBooks and other accounting software
• Strong problem-solving and research skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with various personalities
• Acquired or actively pursuing CPA or EA preferred
• Prior experience using Thomson Reuters software is a plus
