Job Description
A locally owned and operating construction company is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Designer to join their growing team in LaGrange, Indiana. In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with our sales, estimating, and project management teams to bring client visions to life by creating accurate, buildable 3D designs and layouts. From drafting initial prints and ensuring structural accuracy to managing revisions and client communications, you’ll be an essential part of our project workflow. They are looking for a proactive, process-minded individual who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is eager to grow into a leadership role.
Designer Responsibilities:
- Create custom, buildable 3D home and site designs using Chief Architect or similar software
- Collaborate with sales and project managers to gather requirements and translate them into accurate design layouts
- Ensure structural accuracy in all designs
- Revise and manage design updates based on feedback and client changes
- Maintain accurate records of all design versions and hours worked per revision
- Stay informed on current design trends, materials, and features in residential and pole barn construction
- Communicate directly with clients regarding design efficiency and layout suggestions
- Gather feedback from foremen and lead weekly print reviews with PMs
- Uphold and improve internal design processes for consistency and quality
- Prepare designs for quoting and construction handoff with appropriate documentation
Designer Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of drafting/design experience in construction OR recent graduate with relevant software proficiency
- Strong understanding of residential construction principles and practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Ability to read and create architectural and structural drawings
- Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail
- Clear and confident communicator, able to collaborate with various departments
- Experience working in a small business or team-based environment
- Positive, solution-oriented mindset; must enjoy problem-solving and continual improvement
- Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Design, Architecture, or related field is a plus
- Experience with Chief Architect software is preferred
- Background in personal or professional construction/design projects
