A leader in the Chicago construction and demolition industry is seeking a Construction Accountant to join its growing team. This newly created role supports the Controller by taking ownership of billing, certified payroll, WIP reporting, and general accounting duties. Working closely with field teams and project accountants, the Construction Accountant will play a key role in managing complex job costing and project financials across 40+ active jobs.

Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000 / year DOE

Construction Accountant Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly billing and pay estimates for public agency jobs
• Manage lien waivers, certified payroll, and union payroll reporting
• Assist with job costing, WIP reports, and general ledger entries
• Support change order documentation and reconciliation
• Collaborate with project accountants and field teams to ensure financial accuracy
• Perform regular analysis and variance tracking using Excel
• Ensure timely and accurate project financial reporting
• Contribute to ongoing process improvements and financial system enhancements

Construction Accountant Requirements:

• 3+ years of accounting experience with degree or 5+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
• Construction industry experience required
• Familiarity with certified and union payroll
• Strong knowledge of job cost accounting and WIP reporting
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Sage 100 is a plus
• Confident communicator with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
• Must live within one hour of the office
