A premier legal firm is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney with a passion for municipal litigation and public entity defense. In this role, you’ll work directly with cities, counties, and school districts across California on a wide range of cases—from nuisance abatement and code enforcement to police liability defense and receiverships. This is a high-impact position for an attorney eager to litigate, grow professionally, and contribute to the public good. They are looking for either a confident litigator ready to take ownership of their caseload or a newly barred attorney hungry for world-class mentorship in a collaborative, highly respected firm.

Salary Range: $145,000 – $165,000 / year DOE

Associate Attorney Responsibilities:

  • Represent public entities in municipal litigation and defense matters
  • Manage cases involving code enforcement, nuisance abatement, receiverships, and cost recovery
  • Handle police services and liability defense, including Pitchess motions and related litigation
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery documents
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on public law issues
  • Represent clients in court for hearings, motions, and trials
  • Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to government agency clients
  • Maintain regular communication and collaboration with public entity stakeholders
  • Independently manage deadlines, billing, and case progress

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • 1+ years of legal experience in municipal litigation, public entity defense, or related fields
  • Bar admission in California
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Experience drafting motions, pleadings, and legal briefs
  • Familiarity with e-filing processes (attorneys are expected to know how, even if paralegals assist)
  • Integrity, independence, and accountability in managing workload and meeting deadlines
  • Must be aligned with public service values and the rule of law
  • Experience representing or working with cities, counties, or public agencies is preferred
  • Background in government, city attorney’s offices, or district attorney’s offices is a plus

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Fantastic bonus structure
  • Hybrid schedule
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 14 paid holidays
  • Health, dental, vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k) with 3% safe harbor profit sharing
  • Casual office environment
  • Dog-friendly office
  • Tight-knit, collaborative team culture with strong mentorship from senior attorneys
